The Alabama Tree Farm Committee relies solely on the generosity of others to operate and provide services, including forest certification, newsletters and field days. Our biggest fundraiser of the year is the silent auction at the AFA Annual Meeting in September. Please consider donating an item to be auctioned off at this event. Your charitable contribution is tax deductable and will go a long way toward keeping Tree Farm a viable program.

Tree Farmer and Tree Farm Inspector of the Year Awards
Certified Tree Farmers can be nominated for the Alabama Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year Award. Winners receive recognition at the AFA Annual Meeting in Orange Beach and in the Alabama Forests Magazine and the Green Horizons Newsletter. Winners receive a plaque and gift certificate from Stihl. The American Tree Farm System is sponsored nationally by the American Forest Foundation and is sponsored locally by the Alabama Forestry Association.
The Tree Farm mission is to promote the growing of renewable forest resources on private lands while protecting environmental benefits and increasing public understanding of all benefits of productive forestry.
The Tree Farm System provides conservation education to non-industrial private forestland owners in the United States. Currently, there are approximately 9.9 million private landowners who own more than 57% of the forested land in the United States. The Tree Farm System goal is to reach out to these landowners and assist them in managing their forests sustainably. These individuals hold the key to what kind of forests, forest activities and forest resources future generations of Americans will enjoy.
The American Tree Farm System has approximately 65,000 Tree Farms totaling almost 26 million acres of non-industrial private forestland certified in the program in 48 states. For more than 60 years, Tree Farm has recognized landowners for their commitment to sustainable forest management. Tree Farmers share a unique commitment to protecting watersheds and wildlife habitat, to conserving soil and providing recreation for their neighbors and, at the same time, to producing the wood America needs to grow.
Tree Farmers must meet the American Forest Foundations standards and guidelines to belong. To certify forest land, a forest owner must develop a written management plan based on strict environmental standards and guidelines and pass an inspection by one of our 7,000 volunteer foresters who donate their expertise to our program. The system's volunteer foresters re-inspect Tree Farms every five years to verify adherence to Tree Farms' sustainable forest management standards and guidelines.
