AFA Holds ForestPAC Event at Still Waters Resort in Dadeville

The Alabama Forestry Association hosted a ForestPAC golf tournament at StillWaters Golf Resort in Dadeville, Ala. on Monday, August 27, 2012 on a beautiful sunny day. ForestPAC is the Political Action Committee for the AFA and is holding events to raise funds for the upcoming 2012 and 2014 elections.

Registration opened at noon, with teams like Phenix Lumber Company, Baseline, Truesouth Properties, Alabama Land Company, Potts Bros Logging, ForestFund, and more, eager to play the hilly course.

Sponsors included Alabama Land Company, Merrill Lynch, Farmers and Merchants Bank, Craftmaster Printers Inc, Nolen Land & Timber, and Fourstar Freightliner. Play began at 1 p.m., after participants took advantage of the driving range and Tom Saunder’s lunch of grilled hamburgers.

Adding to the fun, a few of the holes were giving away golf clubs if a hole-in-one were made (one was giving away a trip to San Antonio), but everyone was excited to take a shot at the hole 16 where the prize was a 2013 Western Star 4900 SF day cab valued at $135K, courtesy of Fourstar Freightliner.

Fourstar Freightliner employees David Gardner and David Turner were on site to show off the beautiful truck. Two gentlemen from their Charlotte, N.C. corporate office (Jim Loysen and Akbar Gouse) flew down to play in the tournament. There were 3 close shots that landed five feet away or closer that had everyone excited, but unfortunately, no one could claim this great prize.

After play was over, the players settled in to a tasty meal of chicken, beef tenderloin, potato salad, coleslaw, deviled eggs, and homemade cookies. Winners were announced for the longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin with all winners receiving brand new golf clubs.

The second place team belonged to AlaLandCo consisting of Dave Milton, Jeff Hardy, Kyle Ingalls, and Pat Miaoulis. They received golf raincoats for shooting a great 48.8 net score.

The winning team was Baseline Forest Services Inc., consisting of Johnny Carothers, John Law, Jay Waid, and Wendell Humphries, with a score of 45. They received brand new golf bags. Nobody left empty handed. Each player was sent home with a goody bag (AFA t shirt, AFA golf balls, FPAC cup, tees and ball marker).

Several came close, but no one claimed the prize. In photo at top right, members of the 9 teams that played at StillWaters get in their carts ready to hit the course.
