Governor Robert Bentley's "Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program" (ATRIP) is a three-year initiative that will supply $900 million towards transportation over a three-year period.
The program requires that city and county governments submit proposals for road resurfacing, bridge replacement, and other transportation-related infrastructure projects. Local governments must "sponsor" (agree to pay) 20% of the total cost of the project in order to obtain funds.
