2015 AFA ANNUAL MEETING UPDATE
Now that you've had time to get the sand out of your shoes from our 2015 AFA Annual Meeting at Perdido Beach Resort, we would like to reflect back on what was one of the most successful meetings we have had in recent years. To start with, the 350 registered attendees is the largest group that anybody now on staff can remember attending our primary annual meeting. So, if you were there, stand up and take a bow because you participated in a really great event!
One of the ways we celebrate our events is by providing a sort of visual after-action report via the photographs taken by Sam and other staffers to chronicle as much of what is packed into those two and half days as will fit on an 8GB memory card. Only a few of the pictures could be used in our newsletter, AFA Newsroom. We will use more in the upcoming Fall Issue of Alabama Forests.
However, in order to keep the ball in the air, so to speak, we have also posted a number of the photos of the meeting on Flickr. For your perusal and enjoyment click here.
As always, most of what we do would not be doable with the willing support of our outstanding sponsors. Please take a moment to review the list of fine companies and individuals who provided the support that helped make our meeting a great success. And when the opportunity arises, please thank these companies personally for their generosity and use them when you need the kinds of products and services they provide!
Without these sponsors it would be hard if not impossible to do many of the things we do to fill our meetings with outstanding programs and events for you, our members. So please thank them early and thank them often!
And thanks again to all of you who took the time to attend our flagship meeting and participate in the warm fellowship that is part of all of our forestry family get together's. For those of you who receive this and were not able to attend, we missed you and we hope that you will make a special effort to come next year. It really was a great show and a fun time that we want ALL of our members to experience in the years ahead!

Holding the big bird is Raptor Specialist Marianne Hudson. In the bottom photo, AFA members prove that they can "cut a rug" as they dance to the tunes of the Sweet Young'uns.
NOTE: New AFA leadership elected at the 2015 Annual Meeting included: AFA Chairman, Ben Smith; AFA President, Gray Skipper; AFA President-Elect Vaughn Stough; AFA Secretary, Stephan Tomlinson; AFA Treasurer, Tom Bradley III. The only new District Director is Jim Solvason, of the Capital District. Four new At-Large Directors are, Ryan Mattei, Ray Colvin, Patricia Moody and Guice Slawson, Jr. Our congratulations to these new leaders.
DON'T FORGET ABOUT OUR FORESTRY BOOKS
We now have two books that you can use to learn more about forestland management and the history of the forest products industry in Alabama. These books make outstanding gifts for birthdays, Christmas and any other gift-giving purpose. The book on the left, Green Gold: Alabama's Forests and Forest Industries, provides the first comprehensive history of forestry in Alabama, from when the Indians cleared forests for agriculture to the modern era.
The book on the right, Managing Forests on Private Lands in Alabama and the Southeast, is probably the best book every produced on managing forests for timber production and for preserving water and wildlife resources.
If you are interested in owning either or both of these books, contact Liz Chambers at (334) 481-2135 or email@example.com.
