potlatch completes forestland purchase, increases dividend 7%SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. 8, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Potlatch Corporation (Nasdaq:PCH) announced recently it has closed the previously announced purchase of approximately 201,000 acres of timberlands in Alabama and Mississippi from affiliates of Resource Management Service, LLC for $384 million. The transaction was first announced on October 20, 2014. |

The Alabama Forestry Association Board of Directors recently met with two new members of the Alabama Senate.
Newly minted Senate District 6 State Senator Dr. Larry Stutts came by to speak to the AFA Board and to thank the Association for being the only major statewide organization to throw its support to his camapaign. Dr. Stutts beat longtime incumbent Roger Bedford by 70 votes.
Senator Tim Melson, also a medical doctor, came by as well. He was elected to represent Senate District 1. AFA also supported Tim.

AU announces plan to replace iconic oaks Feb. 14, 2015; will plant 30 descendant trees in 2016AUBURN UNIVERSITY – The Auburn University Board of Trustees recently approved initiation of the second phase of a plan to renovate Samford Park.
The plan calls for 30 live oak trees from acorns taken from the iconic Auburn Oaks 12 years ago and now 15 feet tall, to be planted along a brick walkway connecting Samford Hall to Toomer's Corner.

Petrick named head of national forests in ala. ATLANTA (December 12, 2014) – The Southern Region of the U.S. Forest Service welcomes Carl Petrick, formerly of Tallahassee, Fla., to the Regional Leadership Team.
Petrick was selected as forest supervisor of the National Forests in Alabama. December is his first month of duty in Montgomery, in this new leadership capacity.

These books make outstanding gifts for birthdays, Christmas and any other gift-giving purpose. The book on the left, Green Gold: Alabama's Forests and Forest Industries, provides the first comprehensive history of forestry in Alabama, from when the Indians cleared forests for agriculture to the modern era.
The book on the right, Managing Forests on Private Lands in Alabama and the Southeast, is probably the best book every produced on managing forests for timber production and for preserving water and wildlife resources.
