US Housing Starts Outlook, Q1 2020 Update: Another Decade of Gains?

 

In 2019, housing starts improved year-over-year in all market segments: total housing starts advanced 3.2%; single-family starts increased 1.4%; and multifamily starts rose 7.4%. U.S. housing starts ended the decade with ten consecutive years of growth. Despite this continued growth, housing starts were, on average, 35% lower over the past decade when compared to the previous decade.

First Wild Eastern Indigo Snake Found in Alabama in 60 Years

 

Traci Wood admitted holding the snake almost made her come unglued. No, she wasn’t afraid of the snake she was holding. It was the magnitude of the moment.

 

Wood, the Habitat and Species Conservation Coordinator with the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) Division, had in her hands the first wild Eastern indigo snake documented in Alabama in more than 60 years.

President Trump announced the United States will join a 1 trillion trees initiative launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

 

The initiative encourages countries to collectively plant 1 trillion trees to absorb carbon dioxide in order to combat climate change.

UDSA: US pellet exports reach nearly 778,000 tons in November

 

The U.S. exported 777,976.5 tons of wood pellets in November, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Jan. 7. Exports were up when compared to both the 550,035.3 tons of wood pellets exported in in October and the 582,304.2 million tons exported in November 2018.

Congressional Western Caucus introduces ESA legislation

 

Congressional Western Caucus members have filed several bills to amend the Endangered Species Act. The legislative package, announced last week, includes more than a dozen bills intended to “to modernize the Endangered Species Act to better protect species, and to treat property owners, states and local stakeholders as partners rather than obstacles,” according to a press release from the caucus.

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 23, 2020) — Today, at an event at the National Association of Home Builders International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works R.D. James will announce a new, clear definition for “waters of the United States.” With the Navigable Waters Protection Rule, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of the Army (Army) are delivering on President Trump’s promise to finalize a revised definition for “waters of the United States” that protects the nation’s navigable waters from pollution and will result in economic growth across the country.
