The Alabama Forestry Association was formed in 1949 to represent the interest of the state’s sawmill companies and soon expanded to include forestry members from the stump to the mill. Today, AFA is a membership organization comprised of forest products companies, landowners, loggers wood suppliers, foresters, and others with a stake in Alabama’s forest economy.

 

AFA Mission: AFA exist to maintain a favorable political, regulatory and legal environment for landowners to grow trees and forest business owners to manage their operations profitably and sustainably.

AFA Vision: AFA’s vision is to represent our members as the Voice of Forestry in Alabama in state and national affairs; and support sustainable forestry practices and programs.

AFA Goal: AFA’s goal is to consistently increase the organization's capacity and capabilities to exert a positive influence on the political, regulatory and legal processes at the local, state and federal level in order to accomplish the mission.

AFA accomplishes theses goal by:

Providing educational programs to help teachers, students and the general public learn to the importance of Alabama’s forest resources.

     Advancing professionalism and safety training among Alabama timber harvesters and  transporters, growers and managers.

     Communicating the latest news and events to out members through various AFA publications

     Maintaining a full-time government affairs division to watch out for the interest of the forest community in the halls of the Legislature and state regulatory offices.

      Supporting tax policies and regulations that: encourage reforestation; ensure proper management practices; stabilize forest land ownership.
