Alabama Sustainable Forestry Initiative
With roughly 70 percent of Alabama – nearly 23 million acres covered in forests, it’s clear that Alabamians care deeply about responsible management. Citizens want assurance that those who own and work in the state’s woods are stewarding them effectively today and preserving them for future generations.
That’s where the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) steps in. SFI is a program built to ensure forests in Alabama – and across North America – are managed using sustainable practices. In our state, more than 3 million acres are certified under the SFI Standard. Through SFI, Certified Organizations in Alabama commit to continuous research, professional development, and transparent engagement with the public on their forestry approaches and progress.
