AFA Newsroom V7 No. 21, October 15, 2012

AFA Candidate Endorsements Set for November 6 Ballot. No Endorsements Issued on 10 Statewide and 19 Local Constitutional Amendments

ForestPAC, the Political Action Committee of the Alabama Forestry Association, met at the AFA Annual Meeting in September and issued its endorsements for candidates on the November 6 General Election ballot. Click here for those endorsements.

Not on the endorsement's list are the 10 statewide and 19 local Constitutional Amendments that will confront you after you vote for the officeholders on the ballot. The CAs run the gamut from one that will provide for continued funding for the Forever Wild land purchase program, to proposed amendments that would delete antiquated language and/or sections of Alabama's 1901 State Constitution. Click here for a list of ALL of the proposed amendments.

Local amendments are those that only appear on the ballot in the counties where the Amendment would apply. However, there is even a wrinkle there with an Amendment that has a local application, but is voted on statewide, Amendment 3. To read more about Amendment 3, click here.

FORISK Says that Timber has outperformed the S&P 500 as a Solid Long-Term Investment

In forestry and timberland investing, sometimes our job is to get out of our own way.  In other words, let the forestry asset do what it’s going to do for us given it’s inherent exposures to housing and pro-cyclical financial performance.   Year-to-date and over the past ten years, publicly-traded timberland-owning firms (timber REITs) outpaced the S&P 500, while private timberland investments led even timber REITs for the ten year investment period.
